I need some advise on tyres for my 280 SL(1968). What about Maxxis tyres (195 / 75 / 14). Is this the right size? Does somebody have experience with this brand?

    Thanks,

    Christiaan

    Hi Christiaan,

here in Germany nobody will have experience with 195/75 because they are not allowed. Most of the people here have 185/80 and some have 195/70 or 205/70. Also the experience with Maxxis as brand seems to be limited but so far nobody posted complaints here (one of the members has them on his coupé).

    Cheers

    Beste Christiaan,

    Groetjes

    Hi

Those tires are allowed in Germany, because they are for use in slush and snow ( = M+S tires) !
But i do not have any experience. The most used tire for our Pagoda are the size 185/80 R14 90H

    Hi Dieter,

according to my information from the TÜV this size is only for US-and not for German cars. I asked once because I also saw the Maxxis and their perimeter is more similar to 185/80 than of 195/70. But anyway they told me that the sizes 65, 75, 85, 95... are only for US-cars. But maybe the situation is different in the Netherlands?

    @ Christiaan
Dieter is right to mention the M+S issue - this is just a workaround for the low speedindex, the tyres are not for winter use. German regulations allow to have a lower speedindex than needed (for Pagoda it is H!) only with winter tyres and an additional sticker in the cockpit giving the maximum speed (180 km/h for S).

    Cheers

    Sebastian
