I regret I have to ask this question in English. Does anyone know where to check whether a car has "matching numbers"?
Concretely: I am thinking of buying a 280 SL with chassis number 11304410001984. Which should be the engine number?

I think the best way is to get the original data card of your car from DC. There you can see the original numbers of the engine, gear box and so on.

    Best regards

    There is an american site

You can always ask questions here, but -at least the US- native speakers are located at:
    http://www.sl113.org
There must be another one in GB, but I miss to have the adress.
Regarding your question, there is, at least to my knowledge, no reference from chassis to engine-numbers. You´ll need to get a copy from the delivery papers "data card" which lists also the engine and gear box numbers.
For the chassis itself, however, the aluminum parts should carry the last digits of the chassisnumber.

    Best regards and good luck!

Sorry again for the English. I'm not a native speaker though, I am a Dutch-speaking Belgian who understands German well, but can't write it decently...
Thanks anyway for your answers. I'll check with DC.
